FARIS JABAR INTERNATIONAL PRIZE
GUBBIO ENDURANCE has been enhanced for the last
three years by a prestigious event, the International Faris
Jabar Prize, which was inaugurated to celebrate the fantastic
Arab thoroughbred belonging to Fausto Fiorucci. This horse has
become an icon for his primeval strength and for his ability to
impose himself in spite of his age of twenty years, and fifteen
years of Endurance events. The “FARIS JABAR” prize is also the
symbol of a happy horse which although of an age to be put out
to grass, still has the irrepressible energy of a colt, the
desire to beat all comers and an inexhaustible enthusiasm for
new experiences. Furthermore it is a prize in which sport
becomes a metaphor for life, that is to say the urge not so much
to overcome not so much other competitors but rather one's own
limits, and to achieve together- horse and rider - heights which
neither could get to alone. It is a special prize relating to
that area of sport which can best be called education through
sport, and which recognises a competitor's will to fight on to
the very end, without worrying about age or the amount of effort
required. It is a prize which will be awarded not necessarily to
a sporting personality, but maybe to someone in the fields of
culture, science, politics, business, civic and social
commitment etc., someone who knows that life is made up of
struggles and sacrifices and that one cannot always be the
winner. Such a person will be conscious of having merited the
esteem and respect that others show him, and above all will
respect himself, because he has struggled on with dedication,
abnegation, strength and courage, so much courage, just as this
fantastic horse has done.
